Morgan
The Morgan is among the oldest US-developed horse breeds. It goes back to a foundation stallion named Figure, who was born in 1789 in Massachusetts. This stallion was later renamed Justin Morgan after a well-known owner it had. When it comes to appearance, the Morgan horse is compact with powerful limbs, an arched neck, and laid back shoulders. It comes in various colors, including black, chestnut, and bay (which are rather common for this horse). Palomino, roan, gray, perlino, dun, cremello, silver dapple, and buckskin are less common colors. The Morgan is also available in pinto color patterns of splashed white, frame overo, and sabino. These versatile breed is successful in many different disciplines. Throughout its history, it has been used in harness racing, as well as in cavalry. It competes in all kinds of events, including in hand, carriage driving, park, Western pleasure, hunt seat, roadster, reigning, dressage, combined driving, and more. It also participates in Olympic competitions. The Morgan has shaped many other horse breeds, like the Tennessee Walker, Standardbred, Racking horse, American Saddlebred, Missouri Foxing Totter, American Quarter Horse, and more. This breed does not only have superb natural abilities as a sport horse, but it also has beautiful conformation.
