The Mecklenburger was bred in the Mecklenburg-Vorpommern area in northeastern Germany. With influences of Thoroughbred and Arabian blood, this horse is a riding and driving horse like the Hanoverian. This horse is great in various disciplines, like show jumping, dressage, eventing, and combined driving. Before World War II, Mecklenburgers were all-purpose utility horses. Thus, they were not only cavalry horses, but also involved in transport and agricultural work. Since 1970, this horse has been bred as a sport and riding horse. When it comes to appearance, the coat of this breed usually comes in chestnut, black, bay, or gray. They usually come with some markings. Each horse comes with an “M”-shaped brand with a crown on its left hip. These warmblood horses are mid-weights. They are heavier than Thoroughbreds. When it comes to breeding, the desirable Mecklenburger is sturdy and fertile. It possesses impressive mental and physical stamina. When it comes to temperament, it is lively and balanced. When it comes to conformation, it has a fine head with a tapering neck. Its back should be strong and flexible.
