The Hungarian Warmblood is also known as the Hungarian Sport Horse. It was created at the Mezohegyes State Stud in Hungary through the selective breeding of native breeds, like the Nonius, Gidran, Kisber, and others. These Hungarian breeds created a warmblood that was lighter and more graceful than those that came before it. This horse is currently mostly used as a competition horse in disciplines like dressage, cross-country and combined driving, and show jumping. It has helped shaped other breeds like the Hanoverian, Holsteiner, and Dutch Warmblood. When it comes to appearance, the Hungarian Warmblood is a beautiful horse. Concerning coat color, it comes in all solid colors. Concerning temperament, this horse is rather noble in disposition and calm. It is also very intelligent. Concerning its activity levels and movement style, it is quite animated. Because of its success in sports, this breed has a very stringent breeding program. Therefore, all acceptable breeding stallions must be inspected and approved by the breeding committee. They must also meet all sports qualifications. The purpose of the program is to create Hungarian Warmbloods that excel in equestrian sports.
