Hanoverian


The Hanoverian is a warmblood horse. This breed hails from Germany and performs very well in equestrian sports. It is an Olympic medal winner. It is a very successful breed. It is also quite numerous and old. Known for its athletic abilities, as well as for its looks and elegance, the Hanoverian is a descendent of the warhorse of the Middle Ages mixed with certain breeds, like the Thoroughbred, Cleveland Bay, Andalusian, Mecklenburg, Holstein, Neapolitan, and Prussian for refinement. During the end of the 18th century, the Hanoverian was a high-end coach horse. By the end of the 1800s, it was the most famous European horse breed when it came to military and coach work. Throughout the decades, needs shifted. Anglo-Arabian and Trakehner blood was used in the mix at times, as refinement became more desirable. This breed was eventually bred as a sport horse. Today, the focus of the breeding is to create a horse with an elegant look and a light gait. The Hanoverian performs exceptionally well in show jumping, dressage, and eventing. When it comes to appearance, this strong and willing breed has a powerful body with a sturdy back and legs. It usually comes with a coat in black, chestnut, brown, gray, or bay.
