Horse Exercise

Exercise is very important for a horse. It helps the physical and mental well-being. Without adequate exercise, a horse can be unruly and aggressive. Exercise helps a horse stay fit, healthy, and sound. It helps a horse endure long rides. Inactive horses tire easily and cannot support normal activities. There are many different ways you can exercise your horse. You need an open space, protective boots for your horse, and a watch to get you going. The boots are necessary during exercise and riding, in order to prevent injury.

After you put the protective boots on the horse's legs, conduct a 10 or 15-minute warm up by walking the horse around the space. Make occasional right and left turns to stretch the neck of the horse. After the walk, trot your horse for another 10 to 15 minutes. Ride your horse in figure eights and circles. After this, canter the horse for 10 to 15 minutes as you ride it. This helps build stamina and lung capacity. Remember walk, trot, and canter. This is a great horse exercise routine. You can do this three or four times a week. You can ride your horse up to six days a week. Give one day for rest per week. You can add time as your horse gets used to the routine. For example, you can eventually extend the trot time to 20 minutes. After this workout routine, a cool down is necessary. Walk your horse for this purpose. You can remain on the saddle or for a quicker cool down, you can get off the saddle, remove it, and walk beside your horse.
