The Siberian Husky came into being centuries ago in Siberia. The Chukchi people, who used the dogs to herd deer, pull sleds, and work in the snow, developed the breed. This dog was exclusively bred by the Chukchi people until the 19th century. It was not until the early 1900s that Americans in Alaska imported Siberian Huskies for sledding competitions. The popularity of the breed rose when the dogs were used to transport an antitoxin during an epidemic. With thick furry coats in a variety of colors, these dogs look like wolves. Strong and resilient outdoors, they are friendly and easy-going indoors. Pack dogs by nature they love their families. As long as they get enough outdoor exercise, at home they like to hang around and take it easy. If a Siberian Husky is left alone for long periods, it can become bored and destructive. Since they are welcoming when it comes to guests, Huskies are not the best guard dogs. When it comes to exercise, they need a lot of it. As Arctic dogs, they are more comfortable in cooler climates. When it comes to health, this breed is prone to eye conditions and hip dysplasia. Concerning grooming, the Siberian Husky needs daily to occasional brushing during, depending if it is shedding season or not.
