Among the oldest dog breeds of the world, the Shih Tzu has a vivid history. Paintings from 6th century AD China depict dogs that look like the ShihTzu. It is believed that the dogs were gifts from the Byzantine Empire to the Chinese royalty. Further, this breed is known to be a favorite pet during the Ming Dynasty. In 1908, it moved along to Britain and found its way to other parts of the world. A beloved pet, the Shih Tzu brings happiness to many homes today. With flowing hair on its body and a “chrysanthemum” or tuft of hair above the nose, this dog can come in different colors. It makes a lively and adorable pet to any family. The Shih Tzu is immensely satisfied when it is held and stroked by its family members. It loves playing with children, adults, and toys. Since it tends to bark when it hears noise outside, this dog makes a good watchdog. It would do well in apartments, as long as it gets its daily walk. When it comes to health, the Shih Tzu may develop eye problems, kidney and ear infections, and hip dysplasia. Concerning grooming, its hair needs professional care if kept long. Further, it would do well with daily hair brushing and regular haircuts.
