The Petit Basset Griffon Vendéen originated in France in the 16th century. It was used to hunt game on the challenging terrain. The name of this breed reveals a lot about it. Petit means small; Basset means low; Griffon means rough-coated, and Vendeen is the region it comes from. With coats of white with markings in black, sable, yellow, grizzle, or orange, Petit Basset Griffon Vendéens make happy pets. These dogs are very interactive and are always searching for new friends they can entertain. They love playing and spreading joy. Even though they crave attention and love, they also appreciate some private time and toys they can chew. This breed is very clever. The Petit Basset Griffon Vendéen is rather easy when it comes to training, but it sometimes like to display its independence. When it comes to living arrangements, this dog would do well in an apartment. It does not require much space like other breeds, but it still needs its daily exercise. Owners need to be cautious if they leave these dogs outdoors without a leash, as Petit Basset Griffon Vendéens are notorious diggers. Concerning health, they do not suffer from any major genetic disorders. In terms of grooming, a weekly brushing would help, as they tend to shed and mat.
