The Golden Retriever was developed in the 19th century in response to the need for a powerful dog that would help Scottish hunters collect game. This breed is a mix of setters, bloodhounds, spaniels, and retrievers. Attractive and friendly, it is among the most popular dog breeds in the United States. With coats that range in color from cream to golden-brown coats, these dogs have kind, brown eyes and winning smiles. An intelligent breed, the Golden Retriever is almost free of behavior problems. Full of energy, this dog spreads positivity everywhere it goes. They love their families and enjoy playing fetch with them. They also love to run and swim. Therefore, they do very well with active owners who are into exercising. A resilient dog, it will run, work, and fetch until it is ready to collapse.
As the name of this breed implies, the Golden Retriever tends to find an object and carry it around in its mouth. Even though it may bark when someone approaches the door, this dog is very friendly and does not make the best watchdog. Receptive to training, it is easy to train and eager to satisfy its family. Health problems that affect Golden Retrievers include skin allergies and hip dysplasia.
