The Dogue de Bordeaux probably developed around the same time as the Mastiff and Bullmastiff. This dog was bred in different parts of France. It was a companion to both the aristocracy and working class, who also used it for its skills as a guard dog and hunter. After World War II, the Dogue de Bordeaux population suffered, but things went upward in the 1960s. this dog looks like the Mastiff but is shorter. With a large head and undershot jaw, its muzzle is covered with folds. The short coat of this breed comes in reddish brown. Its mask, however, is darker. With looks that may intimidate some people, the Dogue de Bordeaux is gentle and calm with its family. It enjoys receiving a lot of attention and love. This dog appreciates cuddles and scratches. It likes lying around and sleeping. The snores of this dog are rather loud. Not a very active, it enjoys daily walks. It is an excellent watchdog, aware of its surroundings and in control of its reaction. Even though it is great with its family, the Dogue de Bordeaux needs socialization when it comes to other animals. Possible health conditions include skin and heart ailments and hip dysplasia.
