Originating on the border of England and Scotland, the Dandie Dinmont Terrier is the result of a mix of local terriers. The name of the breed comes from a character in a Sir Walter Scott novel. Known for hunting badgers and otters, this dog has a low body covered with soft and rough hair. It has large and round eyes and hanging ears. A vibrant dog, the Dandie Dinmont Terrier is a pleasure to have around the house. This breed is happy and fun. It adds excitement to a household. Protective of their homes and families, it makes a good watchdog. Its loud bark alone is enough to get a burglar running. This breed does well with all ages. Kids and retirees love them as pets. Even though they can be stubborn, Dandie Dinmont Terriers love pleasing their owners. They may be resistant to training at first, but they eventually drop the resistance. They can get along with other dogs and cats, as long as they are introduced properly. When it comes to grooming, these dogs need to be brushed on a regular basis. They can also benefit from occasional professional grooming. Concerning health, the Dandie Dinmont Terrier is prone to hypothyroidism, glaucoma, and back problems.
